Psychosocial Rehabilitation

What are Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (PSR)?

Individualized skill-building program offered in the client’s natural environment (home, school, community) teaching the skills necessary to manage the symptoms of various emotional disturbances and enhance social functioning.  Services provided are intensive and short-term in duration and include psycho-educational training, crisis support and response, resource collaboration and client advocacy.

How do I get PSR Services?

The process begins with a request for an assessment made to Family Support Services by the parent or legal guardian of a child. This authorization from Medicaid allows for a mental health professional to conduct an interview and assess the extent of needs. From the assessment, if needed, a treatment plan is created to address the behavior needs identified. This plan is designed in conjunction with the family. The plan, assessment and request for authorization are submitted to the Mental Health Authority; who reviews the materials and authorizes a yearly bundle of hours. A PSR provider is then assigned to the client and begins providing necessary interventions.
